This year marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Crisfield Heritage Foundation. It was formed as a way to honor a man I revered and loved dearly; my grandfather, CHF namesake, and the 54th Governor of Maryland, J. Millard Tawes.
As we look back over the years, we’ve seen the Crisfield Heritage Foundation grow from focusing on displaying my grandfather’s memorabilia, to serving a mission that I feel he would’ve truly wanted. This is preserving and sharing the history, culture and traditions of his beloved hometown – Crisfield, MD.
I’m honored to have the opportunity to continue serving as the chairperson going into the CHF’s fourth decade. Also, I’m excited to be sharing this responsibility with a forward thinking group who sits on the CHF board, who are eager to sustain and progress the vision of the CHF. This vision is growing the tourism industry in the City of Crisfield and the surrounding areas.
The CHF has made great strides in fulfilling this vision, though we also recognize the great amount of work needed to be done. To achieve this, I invite everyone–no matter if you’re a life-long local, new resident, or a guest–to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions pertaining to the CHF, or Crisfield in general.
I’m excited to see what the next decade brings to Crisfield. As the chairman of the CHF I want to make one thing certain, my passion has never been greater, my resolve more deeply rooted or my optimism greater. It’s an exciting time for Crisfield, and again, I’m honored to be a part of it.
Jay W. Tawes,
2017 Chairman of the Board
